Does sleeping on their back increase a baby’s risk of choking? Is a blanket really that dangerous? And if a baby falls asleep in their car seat, why not let them finish their nap?
When it comes to safe sleep, there are plenty of myths—and understanding the WHY behind the recommendations can make all the difference.
We sat down with Claire Kircharr from Escambia County Healthy Start to separate myths from facts and share practical ways to create safer sleep environments for babies.
❤️ Remember the ABCs of Safe Sleep:
Alone in their own sleep space
On their Back for every sleep
In a Crib, bassinet, or approved play yard with a firm, flat mattress
And here’s something equally important: Safe sleep shouldn’t be a privilege. Families who need a crib or portable play yard may qualify for free resources through community organizations like Healthy Start.
